The article deals with cancellation of your train ticket which had been booked online. So first be clear which type of ticket you had booked for , ie I-ticket or E-ticket. The procedure for cancellation of E/I ticket varies.
Procedure for cancelling I-ticket:-
The reason falls broadly under 2 categories
- Cancellation of tickets before departure of trains:- It can be done at any of the computerized reservation counter and cancellation ticket can be obtained. Please don’t expect cash back or service charge and the refund amount will be credited to your credit card account on the very next day of cancellation.
- Cancellation of tickets after departure of trains:- This can be done at the boarding station and cancellation charges will be 50% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate.
Procedure for Cancelling E-Ticket:-
Seriously no bargains at railway ticket counter in case you wish to cancel your E- ticket. Quietly logon in to the IRCTC profile and go to “Booked Tickets” link and pick the ticket to be cancelled and can instigate the cancellation by selecting the passengers to be cancelled. Cancellation will be confirmed online and the refund will be credited to your bank account which you had used for booking.
In this case as well the procedure for cancellation is categorized in to four :-
1.Cancellation of e-Tickets before chart preparation of the train:
If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 24 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train, flat Cancellation charges shall be deducted @ Rs.70/- for AC First Class/Executive Class, Rs.60/- for AC 2 Tier/AC 3 Tier/First Class/AC Chair car, Rs.40/- for Sleeper Class and Rs.20/- for Second Class.
2.Cancellation of e-Tickets after the preparation of Reservation charts:
For Normal User, the process of cancelling E-ticket cannot carried out after chart preparation. Users are requested to use the online TDR filing for such cases and track Status of the refund case through tracking service provided by IRCTC. TDR can be filed only within 30 days of departure day of the train. For filing online TDR , select the “”File TDR”” Link in the left panel under the “”My Transactions”” Menu. For additional information regarding TDR, Select the “”File TDR Procedure”” in the left panel under the “”General”” Menu. Finally amount will be refunded to your bank account.
3.Cancellation For Tatkal Tickets Booked as e-Tickets:
Sorry folks Indian railways will not refund a single penny for cancelling of confirmed Tatkal tickets. In case of waitlisted Tatkal ticket cancellations, charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules. Similarly in the case of partial cancellation of Tatkal e-tickets is allowed but at least one passenger with ID card printed on ERS/VRM should not be cancelled. On cancellation of all the passengers whose ID card details is printed on ERS/VRM,strictly all the passengers on that e-ticket will be cancelled.
4.Cancellation of e-tickets in case of trains cancelled:
Time to cheer up. Not for your journey has been cancelled but for your money gonna credit in to your bank account in this case . due to many reasons trains get cancelled in this case automatically things goes alright in passenger way.
